Wayne Lee Gay

 

Wayne Lee Gay was a principal on-staff critic at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram from 1987-2005, during which tenure he won numerous awards for coverage of classical music (and related) events, including multiple Dallas Press Cub (Katie) first places, Texas Associated Press Managing Editors first places, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism for 1989. Wayne holds a bachelor’s degree in music history from Baylor, a master’s degree in musicology from the University of Iowa, and a master’s and Ph.D. in creative writing from the University of North Texas.

Besides his long full-time years at the Star-Telegram, Wayne has contributed to Dallas Morning News, D Magazine, Dallas Observer, American Record Guide, and Texas Classical Review (online), and was most recently one of several active reviewers and contributors to TheaterJones.com. His literary non-fiction, fiction, and poetry have appeared in numerous literary journals, including Best Gay Stories of 2011, and Wayne has won several first-place awards for fiction and lyric essays.
