Martha Heimberg
Martha Heimberg is a communications professional based in Dallas. She has worked in print and online for over 30 years -- as a reporter, magazine editor, theater critic, visual arts critic and college educator. She has won multiple press and professional awards as a critic and as a writer on preservation, of both local historical architecture and the native North Texas prairie. As a longtime English professor, she has organized and launched literary festivals, creative writing projects, and poetry writing contests. She founded Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s Poetry in Motion program that places poems on DART buses and trains.
She is a founding member of the Dallas-Fort Worth Theater Critics Forum, which meets annually to consider outstanding performances, designs, and productions in the metroplex. These awards have become increasingly prestigious resume listings over the years. She is a longtime member of the American Theater Critics Association, and has reviewed literally hundreds of local and national productions. She admits to a bias for smart, small companies producing new work or fresh versions of classical work. She is currently covering theater for Onstage NTX, a new online venue with many writers from the recently discontinued Theater Jones site, and for Dallas Weekly, our city’s major black newspaper, produced in print and online.
